Disney Cruise Line Helps Bahamian Students Get Back-to-School Ready

As students in The Bahamas returned to school this week, Disney Cruise Line wanted to make sure they were well-equipped to be successful. As we continue our ‘Wishes Set Sail’ campaign to celebrate our newest ship the Disney Wish, more than 1,300 students in Abaco and Eleuthera received backpacks stuffed full of school supplies, courtesy of Disney Cruise Line.
Disney Cruise Line crew members based both in Florida and The Bahamas volunteered their time over several days filling the bags with pencils, notebooks and other supplies.
To distribute the backpacks, we partnered with the South Abaco District Local Government Authority to reach students living in South Abaco – including the Sandy Point and Crossing Rock communities, where many of the line’s Castaway Car crew members call home. And members of the Lighthouse Point team distributed backpacks at The Starting Line’s inaugural Back to School Family Fun Day in Eleuthera.

I am proud to say that this donation adds to our long-standing commitment to empower Bahamian students to be successful in school and in life. Disney Cruise Line has previously supported educational initiatives throughout The Bahamas including recent donations of tablets and textbooks as well as to support school rebuilding efforts in 2019 following Hurricane Dorian. Disney Cruise Line crew members have also hosted reading programs in Nassau to open students’ eyes and imaginations to the art of storytelling.
In total, we plan to donate $400,000 throughout the Disney Wish’s inaugural sailings. Previous recipients of the ‘Wishes Set Sail’ campaign include the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida Brevard County Branches and Junior Achievement Bahamas, with more announcements to follow soon.
