Disney Aspire Alumni Series: The Power of Perseverance and Hard Work

Originally published at Disney Parks News

Balancing work and school is never an easy task, but each of our Disney Aspire alumni had what it took to accomplish both.

TerrieLou Harris is one of our newest members of the Disney Aspire Alumni Association. Graduating from Southern New Hampshire University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. TerrieLou joined the Walt Disney Company back in 2010 as a Disney College Program participant and moved to Hawaii shortly after to help open Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa as a youth activities counselor. Her career journey eventually brought her back to Walt Disney World Resort in 2018, where she currently works in front office operations at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside.

TerrieLou was born in the Philippines and moved to Hawaii when she was ten years old. Growing up, her parents were her most prominent role models and continue to inspire her each day. Especially her father, who worked two jobs for over 15 years to provide for her family.

Inspired by her family and her favorite quote from Disney’s “Big Hero 6”, “if you like easy, my program isn’t for you. Nothing great comes from easy,” TerrieLou decided to enroll in Disney Aspire. While the journey was not always easy, TerrieLou remembers how special it was to visit the state of New Hampshire for her graduation. And hear “TerrieLou Harris, Summa Cum Laude” as she crossed the stage to receive her diploma.

“Disney Aspire has made my networking skills grow tremendously. And has made me more confident in pushing forward in exploring different roles and promotions,” said TerrieLou. “There may be hiccups along the way. But never forget where you came from and the path you took to get where you are today. My experience and learnings have shown me that I can continue to grow and reach my career goals. My experience has reminded me never to forget to DREAM BIG.”
