More than 100 cast members were among the first to wear the new MagicBand+ while watching “World of Color” at Disney California Adventure park with members of the product team who developed the technology that creates a carousel of colors on viewers’ wrists.
“I feel like a big kid and like the interactions with the band and show,” said Aileen Requejo, Buena Vista Street Retail.
Aileen and the other cast members were randomly selected through a cast-exclusive sweepstakes opportunity to experience the MagicBand+ during the show before the pre-sale began for other cast members, Magic Key holders and Disney Vacation Club members. Sales open for all guests Oct. 26.
During “World of Color,” the bands’ lights glow with every color of the rainbow in time with the show’s memorable soundtrack and dancing waters.
“I remember watching ‘World of Color’ as a kid when it first opened. And MagicBand+ added a whole other layer to the experience in being able to see not only my band light up, but those around me as well,” shared Emmarae Ensor, Fantasyland Retail, who was attending one of her first cast-exclusive events.
Not only did the cast members get reserved viewing for “World of Color,” but they were surprised with two MagicBand+ bands to keep. One of the styles they received featured a not-previously-revealed design with the “Storytellers” statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse that welcomes guests on Buena Vista Street.
Members of the MagicBand+ product team were on hand to watch cast members’ faces light up with smiles. Senior Product Manager Hava Levy, Digital Experience, spent more than two years working on the development of MagicBand+ and was beaming with pride after the show.
