Chosen Jacobs and Lexi Underwood, lead stars from the Disney+ Original Movie “Sneakerella,” recently visited Walt Disney World to celebrate The World’s Most Magical Celebration and their film’s release. And it turns out–in true Cinderella form– that one shoe can truly change your life!
Set in the vibrant street-sneaker subculture of New York City, “Sneakerella” is a high-energy, music-driven movie that puts a contemporary twist on the “Cinderella” fairy tale.
“Both stories tell the tale of a character who’s had a tough hand dealt to them. But have people along the way to encourage them and help them become their best selves. The prince or princess that they truly are inside,” Chosen said when asked about the story’s similarity to the classic Cinderella tale. “I think we stay true to the heart of the Cinderella story. But add a new, modern twist to it.”
El (Chosen Jacobs) is an aspiring sneaker designer from Queens. He works as a stock boy in the shoe store that once belonged to his late mother. He hides his artistic talent from his overburdened stepfather and two mean-spirited stepbrothers. Who’s constantly thwart any opportunity that comes his way. When El meets Kira King (Lexi Underwood), the fiercely independent daughter of legendary basketball star and sneaker tycoon Darius King, sparks fly as the two bond over their mutual affinity for sneakers. With a little nudge from his best friend and a sprinkle of Fairy Godfather magic, El finds the courage to use his talent. To pursue his dream of becoming a ‘legit’ sneaker designer in the industry. El is now ready to lace up and dream big.
When asked about what her favorite part was when making “Sneakerella,” Lexi answered without hesitation, “It was the community. The fact that the cast and the crew felt like one big family. We had such great company around us. Rooting for each other made the entire experience magical.”
The original movie “Sneakerella” is streaming now exclusively on Disney+.
