The Underground Donut Tour is now taking guests to what’s described as “four of the most interesting doughnut, churro and beignet shops in downtown Las Vegas.”

Mostly, though, it’s about the doughnuts.

Fun fact: Elvis Presley’s favorite doughnut was whatever doughnut was nearby.

The doughnuts are really just an excuse to stroll around and learn about Las Vegas.

According to the company, “The tour primarily takes place in the arts district of downtown Las Vegas near the Fremont Street Experience including the Ferguson Motel, the Downtown Container Park, Fremont Street, DT Alley, and numerous murals and artwork as part of the Las Vegas Arts District.”

Yeah, so, they don’t have the geography figured out entirely (the Arts District is nowhere near Fremont Street Experience or Downtown Container Park), but solid attempt and they didn’t spell it “Freemont Street,” so brownie points for that.

The tour starts at Mothership Coffee at Ferguson Motel, on Fremont East, home of Big Rig Jig.

Then guests walk to Donut Bar, which is quite a stroll from Ferguson Motel (just under a half mile). And we trust the tour guide will be armed.

Ha, ha, we kid, but seriously, just be aware of your surroundings at all time.

Underground Donut Tour is correct that Donut Bar is one of the “absolute best donut shops in Vegas.” Some of the doughnuts are the size of Big Rig Jig tires.

After Donut Bar, the tour continues to DT Alley. We have no idea what that is, but it’s unclear if it serves doughnuts.

It’s an alley.

The next stop is Evel Pie, long known for its doughnuts. Oh, wait, they have “secret donuts,” which we actually didn’t know about until this very sentence. That’s cool. Also try the pizza (not included in the tour).

The next stop is for churros, “right near the entrance of Fremont Street.”

The official site says, “We won’t ruin the surprise, but we will tell you that you’re going to have some amazing fresh-made churros to finish out the tour.”

We assume they’re talking about Nacho Daddy, but we haven’t been able to get confirmation on that yet. While you’re there, try the scorpion shot (not included in the tour).

We’re pretty sure a scorpion churro would make bank.

Before your eyes glaze over (we’ll wait), it’s clear Underground Donut Tour knows what it’s doing. Las Vegas is the 14th city where the company runs tours. Their locations include Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, New Orleans, Nashville, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Miami, London, Dublin, Portland, Seattle and, now, Las Vegas.

During its launched, tours will run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

Tickets are $40 for adults and $25 for children 10 and younger.

We couldn’t find anything about where beignets will be served on the tour, but it’s best to not ask too many questions. Find out more about Underground Donut Tour at the official site.

On a related note, we’ve been a longtime fan of Lip Smacking Foodie Tours, and their downtown tour is awesome, and includes stops at Carson Kitchen, Therapy and 7th & Carson. Lip Smacking Foodie Tours has a tour that’s actually in the Arts District (Esther’s Kitchen, Main Street Provisions, Jammyland), so that may pique your interest. Although, not a ton of doughnuts.

If you’re a doughnut fan, though, and are weird enough to get up at 10:00 a.m., Underground Donut Tour may be your ticket to carb town.

Doughnuts are a great excuse to stroll around downtown Las Vegas to get a sense of its denizens, flavors and fragrances.
